The video was made using my game framework - something I've been cooking up for a while. It's the same framework that I'm porting my Flash games to. I learned a lot making this video, like how to do reflections, antialiasing, and bloom.
I wasn't sure if it made sense to upload this video as a Newgrounds animation; I've never seen something like it here before, so for now I'm just making a post. Let me know if this is something that should be on NG too!
Also, m̶y̶ ̶m̶u̶s̶i̶c̶ ̶h̶a̶s̶ ̶n̶e̶v̶e̶r̶ ̶b̶e̶e̶n̶ ̶f̶e̶a̶t̶u̶r̶e̶d̶ ̶o̶n̶ ̶N̶G̶ (omg nevermind, Tom thanks a ton haha!), so if you haven't heard my stuff yet and like what you hear, please do check out my other work. It helps a lot!
@PuffballsUnited launched The Henry Stickmin Collection on Steam! This puts a bow on an incredible set of choose-your-own-path games. HUGE congratulations to Puffballs for completing this decade-long project! :D
In addition to a whole new game, Completing the Mission, the five original games were all remastered for the collection:
I'm making a post about this because I created some music for the Collection!
This was scored for one of the animations. The version in-game has a different BPM, but otherwise I fit the whole track around the section I scored. I'm super pleased with how it turned out! Also I'm pretty proud of the sharp style that emerged for the cover art and visualizer.
There were some fun challenges with creating this one, like creating a drop that sounds okay when heavily distorted, and living up to a rather classic scene. A lot of people question why the title is so bleak sounding haha - I simply came up with dumb wordplay relating to the scene; it's a play on the failure to perform a "360 No Scope".
This one is simply a short drum and bass loop I created for - surprisingly - a chase scene. I ended up with lots of variations as I honed in the style, so I guess I could always reuse some of the elements to make a full track of some sort. But for now, I'm okay with it just being a loop.
This is the only track I did not make specifically for the game; I made this one back in 2016. It was used in a win/credits sequence, so hopefully people will enjoy celebrating with the sounds of a car alarm going off outside my dorm window when I was at university. Beep!
That's that! I give my endless thanks to Puffballs for offering the awesome and rare opportunity to make EDM for The Henry Stickmin Collection. It's definitely a once-in-a-lifetime thing that I couldn't turn down!
If you haven't already, check it all out on Steam, and give @PuffballsUnited some love :D
I'm porting my games to Haxe, focusing on Mine Blocks "Beta" and my Ludum Dare games
I plan to launch a Patreon, release RettoBot, and update Mine Blocks "Classic" again
I mention Ruffle in the video as well. I'm really happy to know that my old games - the ones I will not port to Haxe - will have the chance of being preserved beyond the end of the year <3
If all goes well, you will start seeing HTML5 versions of my Ludum Dare games on Newgrounds in the coming months. :)
There are new features with mobs, many new commands, splash potions, finally the ability to right-click to place blocks, and WAY more! Also there are two more Newgrounds medals to get!
I also released a new music track for the occasion! Check out The Party Cactus:
In the long term, I'm going to be wrapping up development on my Haxe game engine soon. Then I will start porting the entirety of Mine Blocks to Haxe. It's going to be a huge task, but I'm hoping to make it count! :D
As for right now, I'm working on a 1.29.1 patch to fix some of the issues that came up already.
A brand new doodles page for the unusual side-projects I make;
Support for the HTML5 ports of my Flash games when they're released;
An overhaul of the (still-closed) accounts system;
And certainly a LOT more!
Check out the full website tour below. It reveals what's new and shares some general web design tips! Also, Learndog!
I realized over the years that my website's original design was unintentionally quite similar to Newgrounds! But it's no secret Newgrounds has positively impacted my work and my life. <3
Also, for those of you waiting, next up is finally a Mine Blocks update!
"Boy I sure wonder what Zanzlanz has been up to. He hasn't released much in over a year!"
Well wonder no further! Here's my yearly projects video about how my plans and goals are going:
I've been making a lot of progress behind the scenes too!
Check out my traditional yearly recap post to see a month-to-month listing of my creations.
I look forward to appearing more active and having some cool stuff to release in the coming months and years :D
I just quickly wanted to say, in light of recent events concerning Geometry Dash, I've enabled ALL of my music to be usable for your Geometry Dash levels.
Thanks for making this finally possible, Tom! You handled this situation extremely well so far :D
